This is the original 1984 4-track recording, not the 8-track version made for the Welcome to Weston-Super-Mare EP. The major differences are in the tempo (EP was faster, so we could get two songs per side) and the vocal, which was solo on the EP, but two voices on the 4-track.
This is one of the first songs I ever wrote, and is from early enough in the Go, Dog. Go! story for John Power to have still been in the band. John was the first to write a song, and prompted me to do some of my own. "Is it Any Wonder?" was probably the 3rd or 4th song that I completed.
Without John being there, I don't think I'd ever have been brave enough to sing into a microphone. I hate the sound of the two (too-similar) voices now, but that was the sound of GDG in early 1984.
I prefer the guitar solo on this, too, which was Mark Ridout's first appearance on a GDG track.
